To install the new filter and pipe, the old filter. The chambers
in the black "hat" are resonators. I'm not going to
go through this step by step. Most of us can figure it out. Keep
in mind that the PVC pipe will pass MUCH less heat then a thin
walled aluminum or steel pipe. About mounting the filter, I used
a mounting bracket that came with a radio. I drilled a hole in
the PVC, used a nut & bolt on the PVC pipe and then used
the mounting bolt & nut for the OEM air filter box.
The K&N Filter I got has a 4' opening (opps my mistake in
the ordering of it) part # RF-1008 it has a nice chrome
end cap (big deal- not!) I used a 4' to 3' PVC reducer
and then ran 3' pipe to the TB. Drilled a hole and put in a treaded
pipe fitting for the black breather hose on. This was done on
the back of the first 90deg. Bend. Then I wrapped it foam
backed aluminum tape and then a layer of just aluminum tape for
a smother look. I also cut back the rubber flap next to the radiator,
about 4*6 inches to allow front cool air to the filter. I put
an electronic thermometer in right at the TB. Once up to hi-way
speeds the air coming into the TB has as 3-4 deg. rise from the
outside air. That's a topic by itself.
I hope this helps.
Have fun
